Outstanding Programs

Read 180
READ 180 is a researched-based reading intervention program, published by Scholastic, Inc. in collaboration with Vanderbilt University. It is designed to:
  • help struggling students break out of the reading failure cycle,
  • experience a 180 degree turn around in reading achievement, and
  • improve student attitudes and behaviors.

It is designed for "at risk" students who have not become proficient in reading through traditional learning experiences. At risk students have deficits in their understanding of the reading process, demonstrate gaps in fundamental literacy skills, and (in our school) score below 35% on the LEAP and iLEAP test.

Accelerated Math

Accelerated Math monitors the progress of mathematical skills practice. It generates individualized assignments and tests, corrects assignments and tests, and records and reports results for immediate feedback. Each assignment or test is based on data from assignments. The student will be eligible to test on a math concept when he/she has correctly answered a set number of questions about that concept.
Art

In the artroom, students will begin with practicing their drawing skills, learning basic art vocabulary, studying the elements or art, and learning how to view artwork for understanding. This year I plan to expose the students to painting, printmaking, sculpture, and design. Your child will be challenged to think and use their imagination to develop new skills.
Electronics

Mohican Education Center's Electronic Class is providing its students with the basic principles of how electricity works in our modern society, with emphasis on its use in home appliances, computers and audio-video devices. The Electronics Class also strives to incorporate real-life job sitiuations to its students making them relay on strong social and academic skills insuring that they become successful citizens.
