Warrior Code

The staff of Mohican Education Center is focused on working with students and their families to promote positive behavior in all school settings.  Each day students are expected to be . . .

RESPECTFUL

RESPONSIBLE

READY TO LEARN

When the school expectations are followed students have an opportunity to be recognized for their efforts.  When school expectations are not followed, specific consequences result based on the behavior.

The Warrior Code which we promote at school can also be applied to situations inside and outside the school building. The following are a few examples:

Respectful  ____________________________

Classroom:       Use positive language when responding to others.

Lunch:              Use kind words and include others in play or conversation.

Home:               Follow directions the first time without argument

Community:      Be a kind and helpful neighbor.

Responsible  ___________________________

Classroom:        Do your school work and turn it in.

Lunch:               Clear your table in the cafeteria and return all playground equipment.

Home:               Help with housework.

Community:       Keep the neighborhood clean.

Ready to Learn  _________________________

School:              Have school supplies needed at the start of each class.

Lunch:               Be prepared to listen to a change in directions.

Home:               Get your backpack ready for school the night before

Community:       Know safety rules.

How is this program different from other school behavior programs?

·          The program is focused on acknowledging students for consistent positive behavior.

·          Teachers are acknowledged for noticing positive student behavior.

·          Routines and language with respect to appropriate school behavior are consistent throughout the school.

·          All students are rewarded with no student office referrals.

Warrior Band

Students will be given a wristband at the beginning of every nine weeks.  Students are expected to wear the Warrior Band each day.  The Warrior Band can only be removed by an administrator as a consequence for inappropriate behavior.  Parents can get permission for students to remove the wristband prior to family events where wearing the wristband would not be acceptable.

The Warrior Band will entitle you to participate in school events designed especially for those students who have demonstrated exemplary behavior.

Consequences for Inappropriate Behavior

Students are taught the school expectations and rules for classroom and non-classroom settings. If a child does not follow school expectations and or rules, the following procedure is followed:

1.       General Verbal Warning with reminder about appropriate behavior.

2.       Teacher completes Step 2 of the Classroom Behavior Form and sends form home for Parent Signature.

3.       Teacher completes Step 3 of the Classroom Behavior Form and contacts parent through phone call and/or scheduled conference.

4.       If the behavior does not improve, student is given an office referral.

*Certain actions warrant immediate administrative involvement including, but not limited to fighting, using inappropriate language, possession of contraband or weapons, harassment and threats.
